Using an Encoder Appliance with Kinesis Video Streams

0

A customer wishes to use an encoder appliance with Kinesis Video Streams.

It appears to support RTSP and therefore should work (https://docs.aws.amazon.com/kinesisvideostreams/latest/dg/system-requirements.html).

Is there anything else we should be looking for?

Thanks.

RTSP is supported by the Video Producer SDK, not the Kinesis Video Streams API. This means that, while the appliance (or any appliance/camera that produces an RTSP output) can work with the SDK, there needs to be something running an application that uses the Producer SDK to convert the RTSP stream into the format for the KVS streams. The SDK could run locally to the appliance (either on another machine, or perhaps some appliances may allow you to run your own software on them) or could be on AWS EC2/Fargate/etc.
