Unable to Create Redshift Serverless due to Workgroup in Preview State & requires 3 avail zone subnets

0

Good day,

Please help, I'm in a really difficult position. I have road mapped to start configuring Redshift serverless with timelines etc.

My devops team configured redshift serverless 2 weeks back but was unable to create a workgroup, and notice the feature is still in preview state. After configuring the instance reverted to a server version with no database or data to an cost per hour node of $2000 for 3 weeks.

Please tell me it's only a configuration setting we are missing and that redshift serverless is in production already, how do we get past the workgroup issue and subnets over 3 availability zones for redshift as my org only has 2

Regards

Hello,

Redshift serverless is Generally Available in Ireland region. I think your team might have used the "Create Preview Workgroup" option from the blue banner on top of the redshift serverless console. If you dont use this Create Preview Workgroup it will create a serverless workgoup & namespace with all GA properties. We have this Preview workgroup option to use some of the new serverless features which are still in preview.

For Serverless to work - having 3 subnets across 3 AZ's is a requirement, please find the list of requirements for serverless

https://docs.aws.amazon.com/redshift/latest/mgmt/serverless-usage-considerations.html

You can configure Serverless usage limit to control your cost - https://docs.aws.amazon.com/redshift/latest/mgmt/serverless-console-configuration.html https://docs.aws.amazon.com/redshift/latest/mgmt/serverless-billing.html

Good day,

Based on the documentation, here are a few things to note about Redshift Serverless:

Redshift Serverless is currently in preview stage. Features tested in preview workgroups are not supported for production use.

Creating a workgroup may fail if you are over the limit of available Elastic IP addresses in your AWS account and region. You can resolve this by removing unused EIPs or requesting a limit increase.

Redshift Serverless allows you to run analytics without having to manage infrastructure like clusters. You pay based on usage, making costs flexible.

To get started, create a preview workgroup from the Redshift console. Load and query data using your SQL client to test features.

Benefits of the preview include not having to manage clusters, paying only for usage, and continuing to benefit from Redshift performance and features.

For production, you may need to use provisioned Redshift clusters which give more control over the data warehouse.

Good day, Thank You for assisting, i am not expert. My region is Ireland, the Redshift Cluster = Redshift server version?

Prod meaning Serverless is not really available to configure and use? I only have one environment for my analytics, which is the prod with multiple DB for Dev/Prod

I have followed various documents and videos, but the workgroup preview has reverted serverless to server. do you have a link, video or document i can follow to implement a fix please?
