When AWS will send the bill, it will apply the RI to one instance and then apply the savings plan to other instances but not the one where RI was already applied. The answer in short is no. Makes sense?

You can. As per AWS doc, "Savings Plans apply to your usage after the Amazon EC2 Reserved Instances (RI) are applied." https://docs.aws.amazon.com/savingsplans/latest/userguide/sp-applying.html

Reserved Instances should be purchased to reserve the capacity from AWS, the compute capacity that you purchase via RI will always be there for you to use. Once RI is applied to your instance, Savings Plan will apply to the remaining instances, even if they are of the same family.

  • Hi teknivor, thank you the response.

so my question is that if we purchased RI on 1 instance and we applied 1 of saving plan (from our compute or ec2 saving plan) on the same instance so will it WORK OR NOT?
