In Amazon OpenSearch Service, which has replaced Elasticsearch, the equivalent instance type to t2.small.elasticsearch would be t3.small.search. However, it's important to note that the T3 instance types have some restrictions and may not be available in all scenarios.
Regarding your specific questions:
-
The closest equivalent to t2.small.elasticsearch in OpenSearch would be t3.small.search.

For the free tier in OpenSearch Service, you can use either t2.micro.search or t2.small.search. These instance types provide up to 750 hours per month of a single-AZ instance as part of the free tier offering.
As for the Easy create method, it typically uses t3.small.search instances by default. However, the Easy create option may not always fall within the free tier, so you should be cautious when using it if staying within the free tier is a priority.
If you're following a tutorial that uses Elasticsearch and Kibana, you can generally use OpenSearch and OpenSearch Dashboards as direct replacements. When creating your domain, you can select the t3.small.search instance type if available, or stick with t2.micro.search or t2.small.search to ensure you remain within the free tier limits.
Keep in mind that the availability of certain instance types may depend on your AWS region and the specific OpenSearch version you're using. Always double-check the pricing and free tier details in your AWS account to ensure you're selecting an option that meets your requirements and budget constraints.

Hello.
The free tier of OpenSearch Service is t2.small.search or t3.small.search.

You can get started for free on OpenSearch Service with AWS Free Tier. For customers in the AWS Free Tier, OpenSearch Service provides free usage of up to 750 hours per month of a t2.small.search or t3.small.search instance, which are entry-level instances typically used for test workloads, and 10 GB per month of optional Amazon Elastic Block Store (EBS) storage. If you exceed the Free Tier usage limits, you will be charged the OpenSearch Service rates for the additional resources you use. See offer terms for more details.
You can select it by changing Instance family to General Purpose as shown below.
Select "Domain without standby" as the deployment option.
I tried to follow the steps above but t3.small.search is only available and I'm charged when I use it.

And where is that t3.small.search or t2.micro.search? I don't see them in the pull downs?
