Direct connect active passive - Hosted connection

Dear Team - I was going through below active passive dx connection ref doc. It seems, below are apply to dedicated connection. I wanted to know if there is any change in active-passive architecture of direct connect hosted connection? Is below ref doc also apply to hosted connection ?

https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/networking-and-content-delivery/creating-active-passive-bgp-connections-over-aws-direct-connect/

Thanks Team, JD

Yes, the articles would also apply for Direct Connect Hosted connections.

Also see below documentation on Routing policies and BGP communities for Public, Private and Transit Virtual Interfaces:

  • as per my knowledge, BGP community, AS_PRPE and Local pref needs to be setup on router. In hosted connection, we don't have control on router as it is being managed by hosted provider. Can you explain little more how we can achieve active passive on hosted connection ?

  • Whether you use Dedicated connection or you use Hosted connection through a partner you will need to configure a Virtual Interface (Private/Transit, Public VIF) so a VIF is nothing but a a logical sub-interface off of the physical DX and you configure one BGP session per VIF and within that BGP configurations all the standard BGP attributed are honored such as AS-Path prepend, Local pref etc.
