aws transfer start-directory-listing does not return error

0

User credentials are no longer valid on remote SFTP server. I am expecting above command to throw an error but it completes with output:

{ "ListingId": "<<hash-code>>", "OutputFileName": "<<connector-id>>-<<hash-code>>json" }

Output file does not exist in S3 bucket as operation would have failed to connect to remote SFTP server.

How do I programmatically find out the status of start-directory-listing for such scenario?

Hello! You have two options to check the status of Start-Directory-Listing operation.

First, the SFTP connector would emit to eventbridge an event after attempting the Start-Directroy-Listing operation, containing the operation status detail. You can subscribe to these events, and target downstream actions based on the operation status. Please find more details in Transfer Family documentation here - https://docs.aws.amazon.com/transfer/latest/userguide/events-detail-reference.html#event-detail-sftp-connector-events

The Start-Directory-Listing operation also generates detailed logs in your cloudwatch account, along with the status of operation. You can use CloudWatch to track the operation status.

The service team is also looking to understand your feedback to inform future enhancements for the SFTP connector offering. In case the above options do not suffice, and you'd like to discuss your use-case and requirements in more detail, please do reach out to the service team via AWS Support or your account team.

Looking at the documentation, I'm not sure I see anything like describe-directory-listing.

  • Also, what happens if we don't give a logging role to the SFTP connector. Does eventbridge create a log, or does it just not log?
