Snapshot vs Backup Recovery Point

0

Hi all, Is there any way of relating an AWS backup recovery point to a snapshot listed under EC2 Snapshots? I have a considerable amount of old snapshots and I am trying to identify which are recovery points belonging to backups and which are native snapshots so that I can delete the old snapshots. I want to delete snapshots which were created before a specific date.

Thanks, D

As described in this document, snapshots taken by AWS Backup can only be deleted from the corresponding recovery point in the backup vault.
So if you select all snapshots on the EC2 snapshot screen and delete them, the ones created by AWS Backup will remain undeleted.
https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSEC2/latest/UserGuide/ebs-deleting-snapshot.html#ebs-delete-snapshot-considerations

Snapshots created by AWS Backup will have a description that says "This snapshot is created by the AWS Backup service".

Hi Riku, thanks for your reply. I don't see that description on any of my snapshots. The all seem to have "Created by CreateImage" in the description. I have noticed that all the snapshots which are created by AWS backups have the following tag, "aws:backup:source-resource" so I could filter on that.

Thanks again for your time.
