How to charge different amount based on the VM for SaaS product on AWS Marketplace?

0

we want to release a SaaS product on AWS Marketplace w/ subscription billing: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/marketplace/latest/userguide/saas-subscriptions.html

You can choose from Bandwidth (GBps, MBps), Data (GB, MB, TB), Hosts (hours), Requests, or Users (hours).

The Hosts (hours) will fit our needs. The only issue is that we want to charge a different amount depending on the Host type. E.g., if the hosts are c8g.4xlarge instances we will bill $X/hr whereas if the hosts are c8g.16xlarge we will bill a different amount. We need the customer to be able to decide the Host VM type since different customers will have different needs.

How can we do this?

You can implement different pricing for different host types in your SaaS subscription product by defining multiple pricing dimensions. Each dimension would represent a different host type with its own per-unit price.

Here's how to set this up:

  1. When creating your SaaS product in the AWS Marketplace Management Portal, select "New SaaS Subscription" and complete the General tab information.

  2. On the Pricing tab, select "Hosts" as your pricing category.

  3. Define separate pricing dimensions for each host type you want to charge differently. For example:

  • Create a dimension for "Small Hosts (c8g.4xlarge)" with its specific hourly rate
  • Create another dimension for "Large Hosts (c8g.16xlarge)" with a different hourly rate
  • Add additional dimensions for other host types as needed
  1. For each dimension, you'll need to provide:
  • Dimension API Name: A unique identifier used when sending metering records (e.g., "small_host", "large_host")
  • Dimension Description: Customer-facing description (e.g., "c8g.4xlarge instances per hour", "c8g.16xlarge instances per hour")
  • Dimension Rate: The per-unit price in USD

You can define up to 24 dimensions, allowing you to offer various host types at different price points. Your SaaS application will need to track usage for each host type separately and send the appropriate metering records to AWS Marketplace every hour using the BatchMeterUsage operation, specifying the correct dimension API name for each host type.

This approach allows customers to choose which host types they want to use, and you'll be able to charge different rates based on their selection.
