AWS Backup Using ESX Host

0

Hello,

I've had my backups running great. All of a sudden they all started failing with the following error message. Error opening disk on the virtual machine during backup data processing. Aborted backup job

I have checked the gateway, hypervisor, and virtual machines and everything is saying online within AWS Backup.

Not sure where to turn from here.

Greetings

The error message you received indicates that AWS Backup was unable to open the disk on the virtual machine during the backup process. There could be several reasons why this is happening, but here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:

Check the virtual machine's logs: Check the logs on the virtual machine to see if there are any errors or issues that may be causing the backup to fail. Look for any disk errors or warnings in the system logs.

Check the backup policy: Review the backup policy to ensure that it is configured correctly. Make sure that the backup policy is not attempting to back up any disks that are not available or are no longer attached to the virtual machine.

Check the backup schedule: Ensure that the backup schedule is not conflicting with other processes that are running on the virtual machine. For example, if there is a process running on the virtual machine that is causing high disk usage during the backup window, it may be causing the backup to fail.

Check the backup gateway: Verify that the backup gateway is properly configured and connected to your virtual environment. Ensure that the backup gateway has sufficient resources, such as disk space and memory, to perform the backup.

Check the hypervisor: Verify that the hypervisor hosting the virtual machine is properly configured and functioning correctly. Ensure that the virtual machine is not experiencing any resource contention, such as high CPU or memory usage, that may be causing the backup to fail.

I hope these steps help you resolve the issue and get your backups running smoothly again Please let me know if that answered your question
