Lack of pt-BR support in AWS Cognito Managed Login — Disregard for Brazilian developers?

0

I’m raising a serious concern about the lack of Portuguese (Brazil) (pt-BR) language support in the AWS Cognito Managed Login UI (also known as the built-in or hosted login page).

The current UI supports language switching via the undocumented lang query parameter — and surprisingly, some values like es (Spanish) and it (Italian) still work. However, pt and pt-BR are completely ignored, which creates a frustrating experience for users in Brazil.

This is disappointing because:

Brazil represents one of the largest tech and cloud markets in Latin America.

AWS already supports pt-BR in its management console and other services.

The Managed Login UI is intended to simplify authentication — but without localization, many developers are forced to build full custom UIs just to support their users’ language.

This increases development time and pushes security responsibilities back to the customer, defeating the purpose of using a managed service.

The lack of documentation on supported language codes makes the experience even more confusing for developers.

In 2025, it's unacceptable that a global cloud provider like AWS still doesn’t support basic localization for one of the most widely spoken languages in the world.

I ask the Cognito team to:

Add full support for pt-BR in the Cognito Managed Login UI.

Clearly document which languages are officially supported via the lang query parameter.

AWS has the infrastructure and developer community to be truly global — it's time the experience reflects that inclusivity.

According to the documentation, Portuguese (Brazil) is actually supported in Amazon Cognito's managed login through the lang query parameter. The language code for Portuguese (Brazil) is pt-BR and it is listed among the available languages for managed login localization.

To use Portuguese (Brazil) localization in your managed login pages, you would add the lang=pt-BR parameter to your authorization URL, like this:

https://<your domain>/oauth2/authorize?lang=pt-BR&response_type=code&client_id=<your app client id>&redirect_uri=<your relying-party url>

After a user makes a request with this parameter, Amazon Cognito sets a cookie in their browser with their language preference. This preference will persist until they clear their cookies or make a new request with a different language parameter.

It's important to note that localization is only available for managed login, and you must be on the Essentials or Plus feature plan and have assigned your domain to use managed login branding.

If you're experiencing issues with the pt-BR parameter not working as expected, it might be worth verifying your configuration or reaching out to AWS support, as the documentation explicitly lists Portuguese (Brazil) as a supported language.
