Difference between RDS snapshot and AWS Backup copy

-1

Hi,

What are the differences between RDS/Aurora snapshot backup and AWS Backup copy. Any changes in restore procedure? For DR, do we need both or anyone type of backup is enough?

Thanks, Satya

RDS snapshots (manually or automated ) can only be restored in the same region. snapshots can also be copied to another region from the RDS console and then restored from there.

or you can use AWS backup ( to take a Backup of RDS) and store it in another region, from that region, you can restore.

However, your specific needs, RTO and RPO considerations, should be taken into account when designing your backup and DR strategy.

keeping in mind that you can also Deploy your RDS using multi Region Deployment method to avoid Disaster (Region level)
