add table using crawler error

0

hi, trying to create a database table in glue for mysql database but getting the error below

Crawler cannot be started. Verify the permissions in the policies attached to the IAM role defined in the crawler.

I have created the connection to mysql and works. the iam role I specify in the crawler is the same as the one I use to create the connection. the role has the AWSGlueServiceRole permission. did I miss something?

It appears you're encountering a permissions issue when trying to start your AWS Glue crawler to create a table from your MySQL database. Even though you've successfully created a connection to MySQL, the crawler requires specific permissions to function properly.

Here are some things to check:

  1. Ensure your IAM role has the necessary permissions:
  • While you have the AWSGlueServiceRole policy attached, you might need additional permissions specific to your MySQL database access.
  • The role needs permissions to access both the AWS Glue service and your MySQL database.
  1. Check for database-specific permissions:
  • Your IAM role might need specific permissions to connect to and read from your MySQL database.
  • Verify that the role has the appropriate permissions to access the database credentials stored in AWS Secrets Manager or AWS Systems Manager Parameter Store (if you're using them).
  1. Verify CloudWatch Logs permissions:
  • The crawler needs permissions to write logs to CloudWatch, which helps in troubleshooting.
  • Make sure your role has permissions for CloudWatch Logs actions.
  1. Check for S3 permissions:
  • If your crawler needs to store any temporary data, it might require S3 access.
  1. Review the CloudWatch Logs:
  • Check the CloudWatch Logs for more detailed error messages that might provide specific information about the missing permissions.

If you continue to experience issues, you might want to temporarily attach broader permissions (like AmazonS3FullAccess or CloudWatchLogsFullAccess) for testing purposes, then narrow them down to the specific permissions needed for security best practices.
