Unresponsive instance

My instance i-0b8868b756223015d went unresponsive this morning at 11:30 am. The ec2 console says status 2/2 is good but the ip address is now unresponsive and can't rdp into instance anymore (error - Remote Desktop can't connect to the remote computer).
The server's been running fine for months and all of a sudden today - kaput... any idea what's going on?
