OpenSearch Billing - Billed when nothing is running

0

Hi,

We are trialling the AWS environment and we notice that we are being billed daily for the OpenSearch service even though nothing is running in the environment. This is around $45 per day.

Is this normal or is there something configured incorrectly?

Thanks for the help in advance.

You can review this by accessing to the Cost Explorer console , Filter by Opensearch Service . By filtering the usage type, you can further refine the charges.

Hi,

it depends on your usage, but it is probably expected. OpenSearch is not a 100% a serverless service per se, as it will not scale to zero( as typically lambda, for example, would do) and according to https://aws.amazon.com/opensearch-service/pricing/, once free tier is passed, then it runs per hour, so you will incur into costs.

Thus I would read this: https://repost.aws/knowledge-center/free-tier-charges to setup alarms to prevent getting charged after free tier.

Hope it clarifies ;)
