Issues in managing datasets by additional users in Quicksight

0

Hi,

A customer has recently started using QuickSight for MVP they have deployed on AWS involving Aurora Serverless RDS. They are using PowerBI and getting acquainted with QuickSight service. A week back they started using collaboration feature and facing couple issues.

Background: User1, who has admin access, have created 2 data sets from Aurora Serverless, utilizing SPICE for couple of tables respectively. He has also created Analysis and Dashboards. He needed additional help in QuickSight so added User2 through IAM (same level of permissions as User1) and also “Manage Users with Admin access”. User2 has accepted invitation and is able to access Data sets, analysis and dashboards.

Issue 1: User2 need to edit Dataset1 and apply join and filters, however in “Edit Data set” console, “Datasource” panel is not visible at all (top Panel, where you can see Data set and add new data set for join). He is able to see left panel with “fields, filters” and data rows.

Issue 2: User1 refreshed one of the dataset and able to see additional rows of last month in analysis graphs and edit data set console. However, User2 is not able to view same data. User2 has done full refresh multiple times and even though additional data is not visible in analysis graphs or edit data set console

#1 – Most likely cause is that User2 doesn’t have permissions on the data source created by User1. There are two components in play. Data source that contains your connection definition and Data set that contains the schema meta data. Have User1 check permissions on the Data Source ( Manage Data -> New Data Set ->Scroll down to ‘From Existing Data Sources’ to find it)

#2 – User2 might have accidentally added another filter. Have User2 create a new analysis on the refreshed Data set, pull in just the date field to a table visual and sort to see the latest value available.
