Hi,
you can do that to cover the period where you wait for your number being ported over.
Phone numbers in Amazon Connect are charged per day. The price depends on the region your Connect instance is set up, the number type (toll-free / DID) and the country of that number. Additionally you'll be charged per minute prices on In- and Outbound calls.
These charges occur when you're running out of free-tier. You can find the details of the pricing and what's included in your free tier on the Amazon Connect Pricing page .
Hence your number is being ported over, you can release that previously used number from your connect instance and will no longer charged for it.
