Hello,
It looks like there aren't any SDK methods to directly retrieve the size of a table. You might try monitoring your database with CloudWatch, there may be a metric for that, but I'm not entirely sure. Otherwise, you'll have to approximate it yourself 😕
Hope it helps 😊
To see how big a Timestream table is and determine the amount of data in gigabytes, you can use the DescribeTable API operation. This operation provides detailed information about the table, including its storage usage.
Here's how you can do it:
-
Use the DescribeTable API call, providing the DatabaseName and TableName as parameters.
-
In the response, look for the Table object, which contains information about the table's storage usage.
-
Within the Table object, you'll find details about the memory store and magnetic store retention properties. These will give you information about how much data is being stored in each tier.
-
The response will include metrics about the current size of your table in both the memory store and the magnetic store.
While the exact format of the size information may vary, you should be able to find the current storage usage for your table in this response. The size will likely be provided in bytes, which you can then convert to gigabytes if needed.
Keep in mind that Timestream uses a tiered storage model with a memory store for recent data and a magnetic store for historical data. The total size of your table would be the sum of data in both these tiers.
If you're using a programming language to interact with Timestream, you can use the appropriate SDK to make this API call and parse the response to extract the size information.

The DescribeTable command does not give the size of the table in bytes, it only returns retention information in hours and days.
useless answer by a hallucinating ai - the describe table doesn't give the claimed metrics.
