MWAA - Airflow version 2.2.2 does not support updates to version 2.4.3

In my team we are trying to upgrade the MWAA version from 2.2.2 to 2.4.3 through the UI, but are receiving the following error:

Airflow version 2.2.2 does not support updates to version 2.4.3.

From reading the docs this seems like something we should be able to do. The only source of information we could find on this issue is here and seems like others are having the same problem. Could you please point us to what is the recommended way to perform this update? Thanks

  • This page https://docs.aws.amazon.com/mwaa/latest/migrationguide/migrating-to-new-mwaa.html has the following note:

"You cannot perform an in-place upgrade of your existing Amazon MWAA environment to another Apache Airflow version. You must create a new environment to use the newest supported Apache Airflow version on Amazon MWAA."

Does this mean that the option to change the version when in "edit" mode for an MWAA env is essentially useless? If that is the case, it is confusing that it allows you to change it, only to be told that it isn't allowed (and in no case would be allowed).
