I understand you're experiencing issues with random keystrokes missing, particularly Shift+9 (to produce the '(' character), when using Amazon DCV (Desktop Cloud Visualization) with an Ubuntu server and Windows client. This is indeed a frustrating problem, especially when it affects multiple users in your infrastructure.

Based on the information available, this appears to be a known issue that has been addressed in recent updates to Amazon DCV. The problem you're describing is likely related to keyboard handling, especially with keyboard layouts that use dead keys or specific key combinations.

To resolve this issue, I recommend the following steps:

  1. Ensure that both your DCV server and client are updated to the latest version. Recent releases have included fixes for keyboard-related problems, including issues with key combinations not working correctly when using certain keyboard layouts.

  2. If you're still experiencing the issue after updating, you may want to check the keyboard layout settings both on your Ubuntu server and Windows client to ensure they match and are configured correctly.

  3. In case the problem persists, it would be helpful to enable logging on both the server and client side to gather more information about the specific keystrokes that are being missed.

  4. If the issue continues after trying these steps, I recommend reaching out to AWS support for further assistance. They can provide more targeted troubleshooting based on your specific setup and configuration.

Remember that while updating to the latest version often resolves such issues, it's always a good practice to test the update in a non-production environment first to ensure compatibility with your existing setup.

If you have an AWS support plan, you can log a support ticket for more personalized assistance. Alternatively, you can post your question on the AWS re:Post community forum for additional help from the Amazon DCV user community.
