BYOIP process - How long does it take ?

0

Basically as per the title. Can anyone tell me how long the process takes roughly start to finish ?

We are due to close our physical DC by the end of June and have just found out that we have an application hardcoded all over the place with an IP that was due to go next wek.

Hi, do you own this address and is it reached by partners over the Internet or is it only an address for use with you org only?

If this address is for corporate use only, it is probably ok to move it to AWS without the BYOIP process which is aimed at public addresses.

If it is publicly accessible, then BYOIP is required but did you check that you satisfy all requirements? See https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSEC2/latest/UserGuide/ec2-byoip.html#byoip-requirements

We own it and use it on the Internet, currently through ARIN but used in the UK. The process for moving it might not even matter if it is going to take to long. Hence whey I am trying to urgent find out how long it takes

Assuming that you are referring to a public IP, This process is going to take anywhere between 1 week to multiple weeks based on the situation. Please note that BYOIP does not support one single IP address and it has to be minimum a block of /24 for IPV4 and /28 for IPV6. It is highly recommended to contact AWS support and ask guidance for this situation. Here is the link to the steps required for BYOIP process : https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSEC2/latest/UserGuide/ec2-byoip.html

Hi, I see. Based on AWS_BKS above, you may not complete the process before your exit. So, did you envision an interim solution with a NAT appliance hosted by your ISP and translating the address to a new one that you would host on AWS? You could remove the NAT when you complete the BYOIP process with this address.
