Payment pending for Reserved Instances

0

Hello. I bought some reserved instances yesterday but I forgot to set the correct credit card in the payment information so the first attempt of the payment failed. Now the RI are still in payment pending, will there be another attempt to take the money from the ( now ) correct credit card or I shall just buy them again?

Thanks

When you purchase Reserved Instances (RIs) on AWS, the payment is typically processed immediately. However, in your case, since the initial payment attempt failed due to incorrect credit card information, the RIs are in a "payment pending" state. Here's what you need to know:

  1. AWS may attempt to retry the payment automatically, but this is not guaranteed. The system might make another attempt to charge the correct credit card you've now set up.

  2. If the payment doesn't process automatically, you don't necessarily need to repurchase the RIs. Instead, you should take the following steps:

    a. First, wait for up to 24 hours to see if the payment processes with your updated payment information.

    b. If after 24 hours the status is still "payment pending," you should contact AWS Support. Create a support case under the billing category and provide information about your RI purchase, including the region where you purchased it.

  3. It's important to note that AWS Support can only retry charges for Reserved Instances during the month of purchase. If the initial charge fails and it's no longer within the same month, the invoice payment can't be retried, and the charge is automatically canceled at the end of the month. In this case, you would need to repurchase the Reserved Instance.

  4. If you're unable to complete the payment or if the "Complete payment" option in the console is greyed out, you should definitely create an AWS Support case to resolve the issue.

Remember, it's crucial to resolve this promptly to ensure you receive the benefits of your Reserved Instances and to avoid any potential issues with your AWS account standing.
