If your domain is suspended with a "ClientHold" status after changing your email address, there are a few important things to understand:
When you change the email address for the registrant contact to an address that hasn't been previously verified, ICANN requires AWS to confirm that the email address is valid. AWS sends a verification email with a link that must be clicked within a specific timeframe (between 3 and 15 days depending on the top-level domain).
If you've already fixed the email issue and verified the new email address by clicking the verification link, the domain should be automatically unsuspended. However, it can take up to 24 hours for the changes to fully propagate and for your domain to become active again.
To confirm the current status of your domain:
- Check the "Alerts" table on the "Registered domains" page in the Route 53 console
- Verify that the email address shows as "Verified" next to the "Registrant contact" information
If you've completed all verification steps correctly but your domain remains suspended after 24 hours, I recommend opening a case with AWS Support under the "Account and billing" category. This support option is available even for suspended domains and doesn't require a paid support plan.
