Hello.
Terms of use for t2.small.search or t3.small.search are described in the following documents:
https://docs.aws.amazon.com/opensearch-service/latest/developerguide/supported-instance-types.html
When I selected "Domain without standby" when creating the domain, I was able to select "t3.small.search".

Thanks, I was able to use a small instance by selecting domain without standby like you said. I feel like this should be documented better. I don't think that is mentioned in the doc you linked.
As of November 2024, even with "Domain without standby" selected the smallest instance I'm able to select is "r7g.medium.search." If anyone can guide me to a "t3.small.search" instance I'd still love to go that route. But if "r7g.medium.search" is truly the smallest/cheapest option, AWS needs to stop baiting prospective users with "free tier" promises. I was just billed $90 for running a totally empty OpenSearch instance for one week. All I did was follow this "free tier" tutorial, recorded by an actual AWS Solutions Architect a year ago - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIl5PM4m2KM.
