QuickSight: Filled Maps - US Territories difficulty

0

Hello,

I'm having trouble getting certain US territories to display on a filled map. I'm using state/territory abbreviations as defined by the US government (https://faq.usps.com/s/article/What-are-the-USPS-abbreviations-for-U-S-states-and-territories). Some like US Virgin Islands are good.

Filtered by VI (Virgin Islands)

But others (like Guam) are problematic.

Filtered by GU (Guam)

These are the territories I'm having trouble with:

TerritoryAb.
Northern Mariana IslandsMP
Marshall IslandsMH
Federated States of MicronesiaFM
American SamoaAS
GuamGU

Filtered by problem territories

How can I make this work?

Thanks, Eric

Hello Eric,

Kindly note that some areas may be unsupported and to map such unsupported locations, you would have to include latitude and longitude coordinates in your data [1]. To that effect, I did find a dataset you may find interesting to use that has this data contained in it for US States and Territories that I would like you to review and see if this meets your requirements [2]. I was able to visualise all the states/territories on the filled map with this data.

An alternative approach is to create geographic hierarchies. I was able to add Guam and Marshall Islands with this approach before considering using the latitudinal and longitudinal values approach. Kindly see a practical approach to do this on this discussion [3].

To make this work therefore, I recommend including the latitude and longitude coordinates in your data for the unsupported location.

Best, Ernest.
