Today, DataSync will mount NFS locations as the root user. This is why we recommend no_root_squash to be enabled in our docs (https://docs.aws.amazon.com/datasync/latest/userguide/create-nfs-location.html). We do this intentionally as it gives us the most likely chance of being able to access all files on the file system. I'm not sure if Isilon supports root_squashing to a particular UID/GID, but that might be a workaround here.
