Selling extra RI capacity

-1

Hi, I am being into AWS since 10+ years, contributing to the community where possible.

Here its my first post.

We had an AI workload under testing. Post testing, some of RI capacity is no more needed.

It includes 3x g6e.xlarge and few m5 series set to list soon.

The capacity is listed on the marketplace in us-east-1.

Community is requested to spread the word and help us reach right buyers.

Thanks

Thank you for your contribution to the AWS community. Regarding selling your Reserved Instance capacity on the marketplace, here are some key points to keep in mind:

To sell Reserved Instances on the Amazon EC2 Reserved Instance Marketplace, you need to ensure you've completed the necessary registration steps. This includes completing the Seller Registration Page and providing a US bank account for disbursements, as well as completing the Tax Interview with your business's tax identification information.

Once registered, you can list your Reserved Instances through the AWS Management Console by selecting the Reserved Instances you want to sell and setting the number of instances and upfront price. Important considerations include:

  • There's a 30-day waiting period after activation before you can list Reserved Instances for sale
  • A US bank account is required for receiving payments
  • AWS charges a seller fee of 12% on the total upfront price
  • After a sale completes, you'll receive payment via ACH wire transfer from Amazon Web Services
  • You must have at least one month remaining in the term of the Reserved Instance to be eligible to sell

The Reserved Instance discount and capacity reservation apply when the attributes of the RI (instance type, platform description, tenancy, and optionally Availability Zone) match the attributes of a running instance. This is important information for potential buyers to understand how the RIs they purchase will apply to their workloads.

While I can provide information about the selling process, please note that AWS re:Post and similar community forums are primarily for technical questions and knowledge sharing rather than commercial marketplace activities.

  • All setup is complete. We had sold 1x g4dn.xlarge few days back.

Great to hear the setup is already working. Since you are listing specialized G6e instances, keep in mind that liquidity for these on the Marketplace can be lower than for M5 Family.

Two quick tips for a faster exit:

  1. Check RI Type: Ensure they are definitely 'Standard' RIs, as 'Convertible' RIs cannot be sold on the Marketplace.

  2. Pricing: To attract buyers quickly, aim for a price slightly below the current AWS prorated rate to account for the 12% seller fee and remain competitive.
