Knowledge base maintenance

All, Does anybody know where i can find documentation related to knowledge base maintenance? Specifically, are there any recommended ways to add , remove or update KB information? For ex, obvious way is to add (or remove?) records to/from S3 and reindex. Maybe there afe other ways? And reindexing - is it full or incremental, can it be controlled or maybe vendor specific? Any information (including API information) would be greatly appreciated. Thank you YK
