Handling oversize web request components in AWS WAF

Question

AWS added Oversize handling options - Continue, Match, and No match - to handle oversize requests. 
Before this feature was added by AWS, what was the default behavior of WAF? Which option did it carry by default - Continue, Match, or No Match? 
Any historical documentation or references would be appreciated.
