Athena inserting speech marks around 'typeahead' suggestions - how to turn off

0

Athena has started giving suggestions when you are typing, called typeahead, which can be switched on or off.

I would like these on as they are very useful, but every time you click on a suggestion or press enter, it adds speech marks around the field. e.g.

SELECT * FROM datalake."mart_address"

Is there a way to stop it doing this, as they look so ugly?

Thanks, Mel

Hello Mel,

I understand that while using typeahead feature in athena when selecting a suggestion i.e database name, table name etc it is adding speech marks and you wanted to know if it is possible to stop this.

Please note that athena service team has come up with this feature to enhance the customer experience. Having said that while dealing with database names and table names there are certain use cases where the queries would fail if they are not enclosed in quotes. Hence in order to accommodate all the use cases they've come up with this implementation which would improve the user experience.

please check the below docs for more details around such use cases:

https://docs.aws.amazon.com/athena/latest/ug/tables-databases-columns-names.html

When running SELECT, CTAS, or VIEW queries, put quotation marks around identifiers like table, view, or column names that start with a digit[1]

To escape reserved keywords in SQL SELECT statements and in queries on views, enclose them in double quotes ('')[1]

I hope the above information helps, Thanks and have a great day !
