S3 files disappearing

We are using a WordPress plugin to manage our Media Library files to be stored and served by AWS S3, and notice one folder for an entire website had most (but not all) files removed from it; we are checking with the plugin developer to see if they have any input on what happened to cause this, but we are wondering if there is any "backup" to these files or ways to restore/recover the missing files? Our web host company does nightly backups of the websites, but as these files are not stored on the server, they are not included in their backups. Is there any way to recover these files or any additional advice on next steps to see what we can do in this case? Thank you for your help!
