Studio: Syntax highlighting does not work

On my jupyter notebook syntax highlighting does not work. Its also greyed out in the dropdown menu.
It does work on raw python files.

Do I need to enable a setting to turn this on?

I answered my own question. Kernel needs to be running for syntax highlighting to work
