Increasing Mediatailor Content Origin timeout to 3 sec

0

The maximum number of seconds that MediaTailor waits before timing out on an open connection to the content origin server (CDN) when requesting template manifests is 2 sec. What will be the consequences if we increase the timeout to 3 sec ?

Will there be any impact on Playback Stream ? or there would be more no of requests coming in on Origin ?

Please let us know ?

Increasing the content origin server timeout from 2 seconds to 3 seconds is unlikely to have any negative impact on playback streams or cause more requests to come in to the origin server.

The timeout value controls how long MediaTailor will wait for a response from the origin server when requesting template manifests. Setting a slightly longer timeout of 3 seconds instead of 2 seconds provides some additional buffer in case the origin server response is delayed for any reason.

As long as the origin server is properly configured to handle the load from MediaTailor without delays, a 1 second increase in timeout should not lead to any issues. You may want to monitor CloudWatch metrics for the origin server to validate response times remain low after changing the timeout.

The key factors that could affect playback quality or origin load are the overall capacity and performance of the origin server itself.
