Redshift Multi-AZ cluster

0

My understanding is the Redshift cluster node has one leader node and one or more compute nodes in single-AZ cluster.

when multi-AZ is enabled, additional/same number of nodes are deployed in second AZ. when multi-az is enabled, does it also launch leader node in second AZ?

Hi, Yes, you will have another leader node in the second AZ. Multi-AZ works in active - active, so queries will load balance. Also, consider that if you have for example 3 nodes (1xleader 2xcompute) in one AZ, with Multi-AZ you will have a total of 6 nodes. Please check here to set up and the limitations involved: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/redshift/latest/mgmt/managing-cluster-multi-az.html
