AWS VPN Client: MacOS Sequoia compatibility issue: No option to add a Profile

0

Hello,

I recently downloaded and installed the AWS VPN Client (v5.2.1) on my MacBook Pro 2024 with the M4 Pro chip, running macOS Sequoia Version 15.5 (24F74). The installation completed successfully, but I’m unable to use the application because there is no visible option or button to add a VPN profile.

The main application window does not show any “Add Profile” button.

The menu bar at the top of the screen also doesn’t provide any option to add a profile.

I confirmed that macOS Sequoia is listed as supported for the app, but perhaps compatibility issues remain with newer hardware.

As this laptop came with Sequoia pre-installed, I’m unable to downgrade to an earlier macOS version.

Please advise whether this is a known issue with AWS VPN Client on M4 Pro-based devices or if there's a workaround or fix available. UI Window Menu bar OS is listed as supported

There appears to be a compatibility issue with the AWS VPN Client on macOS Sequoia (15.x). According to the official AWS documentation, the AWS VPN Client for macOS currently only supports macOS Monterey (12.0), Ventura (13.0), or Sonoma (14.0), and requires an x86_64 processor. macOS Sequoia (15.x) is not listed as a supported operating system.

Additionally, the AWS VPN Client is not yet natively compatible with Apple Silicon (arm64) processors like your M4 Pro chip. The client still relies on Rosetta 2 emulation to run its Intel-based code, which may contribute to the issues you're experiencing.

Some users have reported similar problems with the AWS VPN Client on newer macOS versions, including issues with adding or managing profiles. In some cases, even after uninstalling the application, previously configured profiles persist, suggesting that the application may not be functioning correctly on unsupported operating systems.

For now, your options are limited since you mentioned you cannot downgrade your macOS. You might want to:

  1. Open a support ticket with AWS to report this issue and inquire about upcoming support for macOS Sequoia
  2. Check for any newer versions of the AWS VPN Client that might address this issue
  3. Consider using alternative VPN solutions if available for your specific needs

Unfortunately, until AWS officially supports macOS Sequoia or releases a native Apple Silicon version of their VPN client, you may continue to experience these compatibility issues.

Hi,

I tested this on my Mac running macOS Sequoia Version 15.5 (24F74), same version as yours—though mine has the M1 Pro chip. Based on your screenshot, it looks like you're unable to find the "Add Profile" option. It's possible you might be looking in the wrong place.

Could you please check under the File menu to see if the option appears there? I've attached a screenshot for reference.

Thanks!!

After you click Manage Profile you will a placeholder to add profiles.
