Amazon Lightsail Custom domain Verification Pending_verification

0

I created a domain name on Godaddy and changed the nameservers to the Amazon name servers I created a wordpress site using Amazon Lightsail and also created a distribution. I then proceeded to use custom domains which requires a certificate. I created a certificate for the following 2 domains domainname.com www.domainname.com

This gave me a Name and Value that i need to use to create 2 CNAME records

I created the 2 CNAME records as suggested

The domainname.com status is SUCCESS The www.domainname.com status is PENDING_VALIDATION.

I created a CNAME record for www.domainname.com and pointed to cloudfront url but still not working. What am i doing wrong

Hi,

Please make sure the certificate attached to the Distribution lists both the domain name and sub-domain name i.e. domainname.com and www.domainname.com.

Also, looking at your DNS records, the www.domainname.com should instead be an Alias record pointing to domainname.com

Thanks.

  • Hi

As per screenshot i have added the 2 CNAME records to DNS configuration, created 2 A records

domainname.com Alias record created pointing to cloudfront url www.domain.com A record pointing to static IP address

i have double checked the CNAME setup to make sure it matches what i have setup in the DNS settings.

    certtificate info

DNS updated created A record for www to point to IP address DNS updated

The PENDING_VALIDATION status indicates that AWS's automated system is still trying to confirm that the CNAME record exists and is correctly configured. Here are a couple of troubleshooting steps to consider:

  • Ensure that the CNAME record for www.domainname.com exactly matches the details provided by AWS. This includes the record name and the value. The record name should typically be www.domainname.com, and the value will be a unique string provided by AWS Certificate Manager. Double-check for typos.
  • If the certificate was requested for both domainname.com and www.domainname.com, ensure that the CNAME records for both have been added to your DNS configuration.

If this has resolved your issue or you found the information helpful, I’d appreciate accepting the answer. Thank you!

  • Certificate validation related CNAME record's name won't be www.domainname.com. Instead it is _x1.www.domainname.com where x1 is a long string provided by AWS e.g. _3639ac514e785e898d2646601fa951d5.www.domainname.com.

Also the question poster has already mentioned they have added both records, which can be seen in the provided screenshot.

  • I have created the DNS records. I did this in Namecheap where i purchased the domain. Could it be it just takes sometime to propagate the change? What i have done now is changed the nameserver for my domain to the ones provided by AWS and am managing the DNS records in Amazon.

    domainname.com status SUCCESS www.domainname.com PENDING_VALIDATION

could it be that i just need to wait for 24- 48hrs?
