What would be the best service for a map app? Lightsail? EC2?Trying to design an app to look for local soup kitchens and we dont want to hit the ground already spending money that really isnt there. Looking for a low cost option at the moment.

This is a really broad question with equally (if not more) broad answers. If I was developing something from scratch I would consider the range of AWS serverless services as well as Amazon Location Services. Why? Because running EC2 or Lightsail instances means that you pay for capacity you aren't using when they are idle. You can certainly scale up and down but serverless does that for you automatically.

Again: This is a very short answer to a very big question. I'd strongly recommend you reach out to your local AWS Solutions Architect to discuss the best way (for you) to build your application.

What are your development strengths? Are you wanting to build something from scratch? Are you wanting it to be running on Wordpress as a plugin? are you wanting to save your results to compile a database? do you want your results cached for others to see? Are you expecting more than 10-100 people using this at any given time? Lot's of questions that will determine the outcome of which service you choose. that being said. Lightsail is an easy way to get started. If you are new you can get 3 months free of the lower tier instances, which could give you some time to play around and get a better idea of what you want to do. Lightsail is nice for the predictable bundle pricing.
