How to delete Lightsail disk after detaching it

0

I no longer need one of my two attached lightsail storage disks. I looked here (https://lightsail.aws.amazon.com/ls/docs/en_us/articles/detach-and-delete-block-storage-disks) and read that I should detach the lightsail disk prior to deleting it. I also read that I will continue to be charged for the disk after detaching it until I delete it.

I detached the disk, but now it has disappeared from my console, and I see no way to "delete" it. Does my disk still need to be "deleted", and if so, how do I do that?

If you have detached a Lightsail storage disk, it will continue to be charged until you delete it, even if it has disappeared from your console. To delete a detached storage disk in Lightsail, you can follow these steps:

Log in to the Lightsail console.

Click on the "Storage" tab.

Click on the "Detached" tab to view all your detached storage disks.

Select the storage disk you want to delete.

Click on the "Actions" button and select "Delete" from the drop-down menu.

Confirm that you want to delete the storage disk by clicking "Delete" in the confirmation window.

Once you delete the detached storage disk, you will no longer be charged for it. Keep in mind that all data on the disk will be permanently deleted and cannot be recovered, so make sure you have backed up any important data before deleting the disk.

  • Thanks AWS Guy. This worked. Yesterday, the detached disk was not showing up when I clicked on Storage. Today, the detached disk was there, and I was able to delete it.
