FTP Server Connection Fails at Retrieving Directory Listing

0

I had an FTP server connected to an instance. It had worked fine. The only security settings were to allow all outbound and incoming traffic through ports 80 and 443. I came back a day later and the FTP server was disconnected. I made sure the same security rules were still applied. I tried re-setting the windows firewall settings to default. This made it impossible to access the instance. There was nothing critical on it so I just terminated it and started a new one. I still can not connect to that same FTP server. I can connect to this FTP server from another computer just fine. I have tried adding rules to the security group that allows all all outbound and inbound traffic to all ports of the instance from the IP of the FTP server. This does not work and I still get failure at "retrieving directory listing."

  • Could you clarify whether the FTP server is the EC2 instance you're describing, or the EC2 instance is supposed to connect to an FTP server somewhere on the internet? So in other words, are you trying to establish FTP session from an EC2 instance to a FTP server on the internet or your intention is to have EC2 instance work as a FTP server?

FTP server usually requires to allow traffic ports 20 and 21 open (or 989 and 990 in case for FTPS)
