FPGA F2 development issue

3

Hello there,

when i use following command to get the platform informantion by "platforminfo -p $AWS_PLATFORM", it show following warning or error message :

application-specific initialization failed: Can't find a usable init.tcl in the following directories: /tmp/pabuild/tcl8.6.13/lib/tcl8.6 /usr/lib/tcl8.6 /lib/tcl8.6 /usr/library /library /tcl8.6.13/library /tcl8.6.13/library This probably means that Tcl wasn't installed properly.

How can i handle this issue? Thank you.

Hi @Jason,

Please refer to this AR from AMD for information on why the warning was generated. The AR will be soon updated with the resolution on how to fix it as well. AWS will incorporate the fix in future devAMI releases.

However, we've confirmed that the warning has no impact on either the Vitis tool or applications. You can safely ignore it.

Thank you for reporting it.

It appears you're encountering an issue with the Tcl (Tool Command Language) initialization when trying to get platform information for AWS FPGA F2 development. This error suggests that the Tcl installation or configuration is not properly set up in your development environment.

To address this issue, you can try the following steps:

  1. First, ensure that you have sourced the correct setup script for the FPGA development environment. Typically, this would be done by running:

    source ~/aws-fpga/vitis_setup.sh

This script should set up the necessary environment variables and paths.

  2. Check if Tcl is installed on your system. You can do this by running:

    which tclsh

If it's not found, you may need to install Tcl.

  3. If Tcl is installed but not found, you might need to update your PATH environment variable to include the directory where Tcl is installed.

  4. Verify that the AWS FPGA Developer AMI you're using is up-to-date. If you're using an older version, consider updating to the latest AMI, as it may include fixes for such issues.

  5. If the problem persists, you may need to manually set the TCL_LIBRARY environment variable to point to the correct Tcl library location. You can do this by adding the following line to your ~/.bashrc file (replace the path with the actual location of your Tcl library):

    export TCL_LIBRARY=/usr/share/tcl8.6

After adding this line, source your ~/.bashrc file or restart your terminal.

  6. If none of the above steps resolve the issue, you may need to reinstall the Xilinx tools or seek support from AWS FPGA development forums or AWS support.

Remember to always use the latest version of the AWS FPGA Developer AMI and follow the official AWS FPGA development guide for the most up-to-date instructions.
