Unable to Access AWS CodeDeploy on Free Tier – Clarification on Free Plan vs Free Tier

0

Hello,

I created my AWS account 20 days ago, so it is well within the AWS Free Tier period. My account shows as activated, but when I try to access AWS CodeDeploy, I am redirected to a page saying: Enter image description here “Complete your account setup. Thanks for signing up for Amazon Web Services. If we have directed you to this page, then you have either not finished registering, or your account is currently on the free plan.” and clicking on activation link it says: Congratulations! We are activating your account, which should take a few minutes. You will receive an email when this is complete. Go to the AWS Management Console but i have not received any email yet.

I have a few questions and would appreciate clarification:

AWS documentation states CodeDeploy is available for Free Tier accounts, and the CodeDeploy website shows a “Get Started for Free” button. What does this actually mean?

What is the difference between AWS Free Plan and AWS Free Tier?

Is CodeDeploy region-specific, and could this be why I am unable to access it in my region?

If it is available in Free Tier, why am I unable to access it despite my account being activated and within the Free Tier period?

Should I raise a support ticket to resolve this, or is there a configuration step I am missing?

Any guidance, official references, or clarification regarding Free Tier availability, Free Plan vs Free Tier, and region-specific access would be very helpful.

Thank you!

  • Were you able to resolve this? I'm on 3rd day after registration. CodeDeploy, CloudShell - not available even though I got email confirmation. AI support is useless. Hope you see it and reply

It sounds like your AWS account activation process may not be fully completed yet, which is why you're encountering issues with accessing CodeDeploy.

To fully activate your AWS account, you need to complete three important steps:

  1. Add a valid payment method to your account
  2. Verify your phone number
  3. Choose an AWS Support Plan (even the free one)

Even though you created your account 20 days ago, the AWS Free Tier benefits only begin when you've fully activated your account, not when you initially created it. The message you're seeing about "free plan" versus "Free Tier" is likely referring to this distinction - your account may be created but not fully activated for all services.

The AWS Free Tier runs for 12 months after activation and gives you access to various AWS services either for free or at reduced costs within certain usage limits. CodeDeploy should indeed be available under the Free Tier.

Regarding your specific questions:

  • The "Get Started for Free" button for CodeDeploy means you can use it within the Free Tier limits once your account is fully activated.
  • There isn't an official distinction between "Free Plan" and "Free Tier" - this appears to be terminology in the error message indicating your account setup may not be complete.
  • While some AWS services have regional availability differences, CodeDeploy is available in most AWS regions. However, you need a fully activated account to access it.

Since you mentioned you've already activated your account but are still seeing this message, I would recommend:

  1. Double-check that all activation steps are complete in your AWS Management Console
  2. Wait a bit longer as the activation process can sometimes take time to propagate across all AWS services
  3. If the issue persists after 24 hours, contacting AWS Support would be appropriate

Once your account is fully activated, you should be able to access CodeDeploy and other Free Tier services without issue.
