"Invalid Model Identifier Error in Amazon Bedrock and Unable to Request Specific Models"

0

Hello,

I am encountering an issue when trying to use Amazon Bedrock. Specifically, I receive the error: "The provided model identifier is invalid."

Additionally, I am unable to request access to specific models in the Amazon Bedrock console. I have already checked the following:

My AWS account is fee-tier and active, but I'm not sure if it has been approved for Amazon Bedrock usage. I’m using a supported region (e.g., us-east-1). Could this issue be related to access restrictions or approval requirements for Bedrock? How can I verify or request access to specific foundation models in Bedrock?

Any guidance would be appreciated. screenshot of problem

    Thanks

The issue you're experiencing with Amazon Bedrock is likely related to access restrictions and approval requirements. Here are a few key points to consider:

  1. Account Approval: Even if your AWS account is active and in the free tier, you may need specific approval to use Amazon Bedrock. The service requires explicit model access to be granted before you can use the foundation models.

  2. Model Access: To use specific models in Amazon Bedrock, you need to request and be granted access to them. This is not automatic, even in supported regions.

  3. Requesting Access: To request access to specific foundation models:

    • Log in to the AWS Console
    • Navigate to the Bedrock service
    • Go to "Model access" in the Bedrock console
    • Select the models you want to use and request access
  4. Approval Process: After requesting access, there may be a waiting period for approval. Some models might have additional eligibility requirements or be part of a private marketplace.

  5. Valid Model Identifiers: Once you have been granted access, make sure you're using the correct model identifiers in your API calls. These identifiers are specific to each foundation model available in Bedrock.

  6. Region Availability: While you mentioned using a supported region (us-east-1), double-check that the specific models you're trying to access are available in that region.

If you've completed these steps and are still encountering issues, you may need to contact AWS Support for further assistance. They can help verify your account's status and eligibility for Bedrock and its models.

Remember, the "Invalid Model Identifier" error typically occurs when you're trying to use a model that either doesn't exist or that you haven't been granted access to use. Always ensure you have the necessary permissions before attempting to invoke a model.

Hey @Shahriar,

The error you are seeing likely means your AWS account doesn't have access to Amazon Bedrock yet. Even with an active free-tier account, you need to specifically request access to Bedrock and each model you want to use. Go to the Amazon Bedrock console and look for an option to request access.

Once you have Bedrock access, you will need to request access to each model separately in the "Model access" section of the Bedrock console. Make sure you are in a supported region like us-east-1.
