Issue is solved with AWS support. The problem is tied to a specific browser either a setting or plugin incompatibility.
I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing login issues with AWS WorkMail. Based on your description, there are several potential causes for this authentication failure:
-
Browser compatibility issues: Ensure you're using a supported and up-to-date web browser like Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge. Sometimes clearing your browser cache and cookies can help resolve authentication problems.
-
Account lockout: There might be an old device or application still trying to authenticate with an outdated password, causing your account to be temporarily locked due to too many failed login attempts.
-
Authentication mode settings: Your organization's authentication mode might have been changed. If it's set to "IAM Identity Center only," you won't be able to sign in with Amazon WorkMail directory credentials.
-
Password synchronization delay: If you recently reset your password, there might be a delay in synchronization across all services.
-
Network or connectivity issues: Sometimes network problems can interfere with the authentication process. Try accessing WorkMail from a different network (e.g., switch from WiFi to mobile data) to see if that resolves the issue.
Since you mentioned that using the wrong password shows a different error message, and that password reset didn't help, I suggest the following steps:
-
Double-check that you're using the correct username format. It should be just the mailbox username itself, not the full email address.
-
Ask your WorkMail administrator to verify that your user account is not marked as Disabled in the console.
-
Ensure that your organization's domain configuration is correct and verified.
-
Check if multi-factor authentication (MFA) has been enabled recently, which would require additional verification steps.
If these steps don't resolve the issue, your WorkMail administrator should contact AWS Support for further investigation, as there might be specific settings or issues within your organization that are causing the sign-in problem.

No MFA enabled so far, domain is configured correctly, account is not marked as disabled, username format is correct (not email), browser is supported and up-to date, not sure about old device tho.
