Packet Drops from AirTel Network

1

Accessing any load balancer in us-east-1 from AirTel network in Inida results in packet loss. Sites are loading very slow. The problem does not persist if

  • I access same site from a different network (other than AirTel)
  • I access sites hosted in datacentre (other than us-east-1)

ping <loadbalancer-dns> and ping <lb-ip-address> shows there is a 30% packet drop. Packet drop is seen not just with our VPC, but also other VPCs.

  • I had the similar issue before and it was related to Mobile settings. Did you check below ?

    • If you are using Airtel internet from mobile then try to use the sim card in another phone
    • What happens when you ping it from CloudShell when you are using Airtel internet?
    • I have also checked with Mobile company at that time and sometimes it could be an issue from their end too.

Greetings,

I understand that you’ve been having problems accessing load balancers in us-east-1 region from the AirTel network. It’s important to acknowledge that the root of this issue can be attributed to the underlaying infrastructure deployed by AirTel.

It is worth noting that the divergent technical capacities between internet service providers may contribute to latency discrepancies. This could explain why you suffer from packet loss when accessing the us-east-1 region.

You could use CloudFront to mitigate this issue. CloudFront reduce latency through its global network of edge location.

Hope this help!
