Free tier costs going up with no reason.

Hello, I see that some other people is having the same issue, but I didnt find a solution for my case.

I have configured a MYSQL RDS DB with free tier configurations in order to test this infraestructure for a system that I am bulding.

When I first created the DB, automatically a backup policy was generated for 7 days of retention. I believe this caused my initial issue, so I changed that configuration to 0 days. So now I dont have any backup policy.

I changed this like 2 weeks ago and I still see that my spending is increasing day after day, gp2 storage is increasing with no reason.

Amazon Relational Database Service Provisioned Storage $0.81

$0.00 per GB-month of provisioned GP2 storage under monthly free tier running MySQL 20.000 GB-Mo $0.00

$0.219 per GB-month of provisioned gp2 storage running MySQL 3.678 GB-Mo $0.81

I have lost a lot of time trying to understand what is causing this

Maybe is not a lot of money right now, but this hiding costs are telling me not to use RDS.

Hope someone can tell me what is going on.

Thanks Aimee, I created a ticket in AWS since I can't find an explanation of why I am getting billing more day after day.

The guide you sent me is the exact configuration I have. So I am not sure why this is happening.

Also, I am reading that I have 20G of storage for backups. So I am not sure if the configuration of the backup policy was causing this issue.

My DB is less than a MB in size of information and in the billing I see "3.678 GB-Mo" in "GB-month of provisioned gp2 storage running". Not sure if that is space of storage? transfer?

  • Yeah,

did you find a way to terminate a service? The guide doesn't help at all, It's impossible for me to find a "Delete/Terminate Service" button! No useful answers, and costs still increasing hour after hour...

The console shows zero used resources/quota.

Really, this is ruining my finance (I'm not on business)

Hello,

I'm so sorry to hear about this frustration. This is not the experience we strive for.

You can take a look at this article that has some info that may assist: https://aws.amazon.com/premiumsupport/knowledge-center/free-tier-rds-launch/.

If you have any additional questions or concerns, I recommend creating a support case with our Billing team. You can do so by following the instructions found here: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/cur/latest/userguide/billing-get-answers.html.

Best regards,

— Aimee K.
