How Can I get Refund for ECS Substantial Code for Code Crashed Running tasks for days

0

I've been using AWS services for years now but never have I ever faced this issue. Usually my account gets charge of $500 every month but this month I am charged with $2018 and the reason I found is that my ECS tasks (around 400) kept on running for 4 days due to Code Crash.

I want to get this additional cost be refunded to my account or maybe credits are allocated to me as a return as a good gesture from AWS team as this is the first time this happened to me and I've now attached alarms for daily budget. Huge Cost against ECS Code Crash Task

These tasks didn't use any compute and were in idle state but they kept running. Please guide me on how I can get the credits against this deducted amount. I would be really grateful to anybody helping me out in this matter.

Thanks

To request a refund for unexpected ECS charges due to crashed tasks that continued running, you should contact AWS Billing Support directly. Here's how to proceed:

  1. Open a case in the AWS Support Center by visiting the AWS Management Console and clicking on "Create Case"
  2. Select "Account and Billing Support" as the category
  3. Choose "Billing" as the issue type
  4. In your support case, include:
  • "SLA Credit Request" or "Billing Credit Request" in the subject line
  • Details about the incident, including dates and times when the tasks were running unnecessarily
  • The resource IDs of the affected ECS tasks
  • AWS regions where the tasks were running
  • Documentation or logs showing the code crash that led to the tasks continuing to run
  • The specific amount you're requesting for refund ($2018 - your usual $500)

While AWS will review your request, there's no guarantee of a refund as this appears to be related to your application code crashing rather than an AWS service failure. However, AWS Support may consider your long-standing customer relationship and the fact that this is your first such incident when evaluating your request.

It's good that you've already set up budget alarms to prevent similar situations in the future. When contacting support, emphasize that you've taken preventative measures to ensure this won't happen again.
