Long loading times of AWS Sign In and Console on specific computer

1

Since a few days I have an issue where sign in and AWS console webpage take so long to load that they become unusable. I get log in times and page load times anywhere from 30 seconds to 4 minutes with frequent failures due to timeouts. Chrome Developer Tools show that the bulk of that time are "document / Redirect" Mostly: "home?..." Before that, on Sunday, I used AWS console the whole day on the same machine with sub second loading times everywhere.

I researched the issue around the web and AWS troubleshooting sites. It seems some other people had similar issues over the years but there wasn't anybody that could point to the cause. [1] There was one user that started having the issue the same time as I did. [2]

I tried clearing cache, cookies, DNS, switching browser, turning off firewalls and anti virus and trying using different accounts and using different regions. I tried log in and AWS concole on my phone and a laptop. It works flawlessly and quick on them and they both run on the same network as my desktop. It was suggested that a VPN might help but that seems like circumventing the issue and not really solving it. Machine is running Windows 10 (19044.1889) with Kasperski Anti Virus.

There's no indication that anything else is wrong with the machine and am at a loss... Does anyone have an idea what the cause of this issue is?

  • I am also experiencing exactly the same issue since around Monday. Besides the console, I am unable to work in the Cloud9 IDE as well, it constantly times out, if it loads at all.

I administer two accounts on AWS, and both accounts do exactly the same. I logged in using another computer, and it seems to be working fine on that computer, so the issue has to be on my machine. I am running Windows 11 Pro (22000.856) on a relatively new laptop with not much running on it (do most of my work via Remote Desktop, or in the browser.

Also cleared cache (multiple times), flushed my DNS, tried using different browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Edge), and even uninstalled and re-installed the browsers (with restarts in between). This issue started about a week ago without any changes on my machine (unless there was an OS update in the background), and doesn't seem to resolve itself.

Thanks for the VPN suggestion. I tried this, and can confirm that using a VPN did resolve the issue.

Not sure if it might be ISP related? Will continue troubleshooting and report back if I find the problem.

  • Very peculiar that we seem to have gotten the same problem around the same time. Just a day ago someone else with a similar issue posted also here on re:Post. This as well as the swearing guy on reddit kind of seems to indicated this isn't an isolated incident. Especially as it seems like it happened before years ago. It's really a shame nobody seems to have found out or posted the cause of the issue. In the meantime I also tried to run Windows Sandbox to see if it happens in there too but some (hopefully) unrelated issue makes a required service not run on my machine ...

  • It seems that this has resolved itself again. Still no idea why this happens through.

I have been having this issue for 6 months. VPN works, but why should I have to pay for a VPN? Using a free VPN just get's me flagged by Google and other sites because they're all used for spammy reasons.

I'm with Virgin Media Business in the UK, I think it's probably them, it would be useful to know what ISP other people are using.
