AWS Management Console Skips Password Prompt and Returns Account Not Found Error

0

I attempted to log in to my AWS account through the Management Console. After entering my root user email, I was prompted for a security check and then error occurred

However, I was never prompted for my password nor the MFA and instead received the error: “There was an error. An AWS account with that sign-in information does not exist. Try again or create a new account.”

I also tried clearing the browser cache and using a different web browser, but the issue persists.

Any help would be appreciated.

I understand your frustration with this login issue. This is an unusual situation where you're being prompted for MFA but not for your password, and then receiving an "account does not exist" error.

Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. Double-check your email address: Ensure you're entering the exact email address associated with your AWS root account. Even a small typo can cause this error.

  2. Try the "Forgot password" option: This might help reset your authentication flow and ensure you go through the proper password verification step.

  3. Check your account status: There might be an issue with your account status. Look for any emails from AWS regarding account changes or security issues.

  4. Verify the sign-in URL: Make sure you're using the correct URL for AWS Console login (https://console.aws.amazon.com/).

  5. Check your device's time and date settings: Authentication can be sensitive to time discrepancies, so ensure your computer's date and time are set correctly.

  6. If you previously closed an AWS account: You cannot use the same email address that was registered to a closed AWS account as the primary email for another AWS account.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, you'll need to contact AWS Support directly. Since you can't access the console to create a support case, you can:

  • Visit the AWS Support Center without logging in
  • Contact AWS via phone for your region
  • Use AWS's account recovery process

When contacting support, be prepared to verify your identity with information such as the email associated with the account, billing details, and other relevant account information.
