black screen on client when Nvidia drivers loaded on Ubuntu

0

Hello.... I am Proof of Concepting NiceDCV as an alternative to our current Teradici installation.

I've tested the Server on RockyLinux 8.X utilizing macOS arm client and it is great. But our true client platform is Ubuntu 20/22 client on lenovo P340 Tiny with Quadro P620.

Prior to installing the nvidia-drivers on Ubuntu client, NiceDCV Client does show image, although so slow it would be un-usable. Once I install and load the nvidia-drivers, the client only shows black and the FPS in the diagnostic window shows 0.

I know the server is working properly as macOS client is fine.

I had been working with NiceDCV support on this but they went silent a week ago with this issue completely unresolved. I would very much like to switch to NiceDCV over Teradici, but this isn't the "world-class support" that your website states.

I've confirmed that Wayland is not running.

It is case #25202

Hi,

can you try with different client renderers?

Does the problem persist if you run the viewer as:

       dcvviewer --renderer-type glx

?

Also, as a mitigation, you could see whether you still experience the issue with the software renderer:

     dcvviewer --renderer-type software

If one of them works fine and is slow - can you please check with top, ... what is consuming most resources?

BTW - are you using DCV on AWS server-side on which instance?

Best regards, Karsten

  • I can try with software render, already tried glx and it coredumps upon connection to machine. Please reference the case notes.

--renderer-type software works but performance is un-usable. I am using DCV server on-premises, and that is my intended use case deployment.

  • Regards --renderer-type software is it un-usable because your CPU is at 100%? How large is your screen and where are you located? Maybe you can reach out to us at https://www.ni-sp.com/contact/ ?

I'm seeing the same thing, with the server and client both running an up to date Ubuntu 22.04. I get a black screen with 2022.2 client. I then downgraded the client back to 2022.1 and everything worked as expected (NVIDIA Driver Version: 515.76 on client).
