Gateway migration needed Your gateway will not be supported by AWS Support

0

Hi,

Clearly I've missed some important announcement, but our FSG is displaying the following message in the management console:

Gateway migration needed
Your gateway will not be supported by AWS Support after January 1, 2022, 10:00:00 AM GMT+11

Additionally on the main gateway page it says:
Your gateway will receive new feature updates until September 15, 2021, 10:00:00 AM GMT_10 and only security updates thereafter until January 1, 2022, 10:00:00 AM GMT_11. Your gateway will not be supported by AWS Support after January 1, 2022, 10:00:00 AM GMT+11. Please migrate your gateway.

I've done a few searches and cannot find anything else about this.

Can someone tell me what we need to do, or direct me to some documentation/announcement?

Thanks,

Sam

Hi Sam,

The deprecation notices for the affected gateways started going out in late 2020, and additional notices have been sent since then. The notices are sent to the contact email address on the account that owns the affected gateway. In addition, a PHD notice for the affected gateways started being displayed in the AWS Console in late 2020.

Depending on your gateway type and when it was deployed, the deprecation date may be different, please refer to the notice for your specific gateway.

Regarding what action to take, you must migrate your gateway VM listed for deprecation to a new gateway VM before the deprecation date associated with that gateway. The migration procedure is different based on the type of gateway you have.

Please refer to the following links for guidance

Stored Volume Gateways: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/storagegateway/latest/userguide/migrate-data.html#migrate-data-volume-stored
Cached Volume Gateways: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/storagegateway/latest/userguide/migrate-data.html#migrate-data-volume-cached

So if we only have a tape gateway we only need to follow the instructions from TGW link which is to move the Virtual Tapes only? We don't have any Volumes which are backed up in the first couple of steps in that link.

Depending on the type of the gateway (S3 File, Stored Volume, Cached Volume or Tape) you have currently, please follow the instructions for that gateway type.

If you have only a Tape gateway, please follow the instructions for Tape Gateway.

Hi there, so can I confirm that I need to fully delete the on-prem VM's /VHD's and create a brand new gateway from scratch. Then retrieve the tapes and re-import?

Thanks
