SNS verifying SMS sandbox numbers - never receive verification text message

0

I trying to subscribe my mobile number to an SNS topic via SMS. My account is in sandbox mode. I have entered my mobile number to get it verified but I never received the 5-8 digit verification code. I have tried 5 times and now the AWS dashboard says I've had to many tries. My account is in the UK , I have not setup any origination numbers as the account is still in sandbox

Any ideas on how to progress this so it works ?

Update: I added a UK Sender ID in Pinpoint. I sent a verification SMS to a relatives number and they got the verification code and have been registered. I now need to wait 24hrs so I can delete my number and retry.

I am still confused between what is needed to send SMS messages in the UK Sandbox , SenderID or origination ID , or both ? It seems each region/country has its own requirements.

Update2 This might save someone else a bit of time. It seems the reason I am not receiving any verification messages from AWS is because my UK mobile operator EE/BT are blocking SMS messages that have a senderID of NOTIFY. No way around it until the operator changes their blocking filter. I am now looking into changing the SenderID of the verification SMS but I believe its impossible as AWS control that. I may have to take my SMS account out of sandbox mode so I can enable the customisation of the SenderID.

Thanks

=>Check Number Format: Ensure you entered your mobile number correctly with the country code.

=>Network Coverage: Make sure your phone has good network signal to receive SMS.

=>Check Spam: Look in your spam or junk folder for the verification code SMS.

=>Try Different Number: If possible, try another mobile number to verify.

=.Contact AWS Support: If still stuck, reach out to AWS Support for help.

=.Keep in mind the sandbox may have limitations, and origination numbers aren't needed in the sandbox.

  • Thank you, the information in origination numbers is confusing, its seems different between countries and sandbox etc. I created a SenderID in PinPointSMS and then I registered a different number and its now working. I will wait 24hrs to try my number again.

Hello,

if you didn't enter the country code with the phone number. You can delete pending or verified destination phone numbers only after 24 hours or more have passed since verification or the last verification attempt.

To add and verify phone numbers in sandbox account please follow this guide: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/sns/latest/dg/sns-sms-sandbox-verifying-phone-numbers.html

  • According to this doc https://docs.aws.amazon.com/sms-voice/latest/userguide/phone-number-types.html#phone-number-types-choosing-oneway I do not need and origination ID. Also when I go to choose a toll free number using the guides you sent. My country UK , is not listed . Thanks for guides though I am still trying to figure it out.

  • Hi,

The destination phone number and its verification status appear in the Sandbox destination phone numbers section. If the verification status is Pending, verification was unsuccessful. This can happen, for example, if you didn't enter the country code with the phone number. You can delete pending or verified destination phone numbers only after 24 hours or more have passed since verification or the last verification attempt.
